Tamarind Poha aka Puliogare Poha

Another item on my Poha list is the Tamarind Poha. It feels divine to get engulfed in the aroma of garam masala and the sweetish-tangy taste imparted by the Tamarind. Isn't it a best to have healthy evening snacks instead of the deep fried stuff. Tamarind Poha, even the term itself seems interesting, isn't it?

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups (200 gms) thick Poha
  • 3 tsp of tamarind pulp
  • 8-10 peanuts
  • 1/2 tsp of garam masala
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 3-4 sprigs of finely chopped coriander
  • 2 tsp of urad daal
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • salt as per taste
  • 3 tsp of grated dried coconut
  • 1 tsp of oil
Instructions:
  1. Soak tamarind in water for 10 mins.
  2. Wash Poha in water, drain the water and let it sit for 2 mins in the colander.
  3. In a small wok, add oil for tempering on a low flame.
  4. Add peanuts and fry them until crisp brown and transfer to a bowl.
  5. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the oil.
  6. Once the seeds begin to crackle, add urad dal and curry leaves.
  7. Stir ingredients until the urad dal turns golden brown.
  8. Add grated coconut to the wok and stir.
  9. Once the coconut turns slightly brown, add garam masala and tamarind pulp and give it a stir.
  10. Switch off the stove once the pulp begins to thicken.
  11. Transfer the soaked poha to a mixing bowl and add the peanuts.
  12. Mix the tempered tamarind pulp to the Poha and mix all the ingredients gently.
  13. Add finely chopped coriander and serve immediately.
