Tamarind Poha aka Puliogare Poha
Another item on my Poha list is the Tamarind Poha. It feels divine to get engulfed in the aroma of garam masala and the sweetish-tangy taste imparted by the Tamarind. Isn't it a best to have healthy evening snacks instead of the deep fried stuff. Tamarind Poha, even the term itself seems interesting, isn't it?
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (200 gms) thick Poha
- 3 tsp of tamarind pulp
- 8-10 peanuts
- 1/2 tsp of garam masala
- 5-6 curry leaves
- 3-4 sprigs of finely chopped coriander
- 2 tsp of urad daal
- 1 tsp sugar
- salt as per taste
- 3 tsp of grated dried coconut
- 1 tsp of oil
- Soak tamarind in water for 10 mins.
- Wash Poha in water, drain the water and let it sit for 2 mins in the colander.
- In a small wok, add oil for tempering on a low flame.
- Add peanuts and fry them until crisp brown and transfer to a bowl.
- Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds to the oil.
- Once the seeds begin to crackle, add urad dal and curry leaves.
- Stir ingredients until the urad dal turns golden brown.
- Add grated coconut to the wok and stir.
- Once the coconut turns slightly brown, add garam masala and tamarind pulp and give it a stir.
- Switch off the stove once the pulp begins to thicken.
- Transfer the soaked poha to a mixing bowl and add the peanuts.
- Mix the tempered tamarind pulp to the Poha and mix all the ingredients gently.
- Add finely chopped coriander and serve immediately.
